The Alamo Mission in San Antonio is best known for the Battle of the Alamo. In 1836, during the Texas Revolution, 187 men under the command of Lieutenant Colonel William B. Travis defended the Alamo against over 6,000 men under the command of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. After a 13 day siege, the entire Texas force was killed with the few survivors being shot after they surrendered. The Alamo became a warcry for the Texas forces during future battles.
