We've been waiting for this. It's finally here. Google's official Maps app for iOS turned up on iTunes late Wednesday night along with the official announcement of the app release from the Google blog.
According to The Next Web, Google Maps for iOS became the App Store's most popular free app just 7 hours after it went live on iTunes. The app is said to show an enhanced view for maps on a mobile screen with a sharper, vector-based display and faster loading time.
It features turn-by-turn navigation, directions for public transit of course Google Street View. Google did well to make sure that the iOS app would feature everything that the Android app and desktop versions have upon release, and some critics are already saying that it actually tops the version that's currently available for Google's very own Android platform.
Google Maps for iOS is not yet optimized for the iPad's larger screen, but it works on nearly every device from the iPhone 3GS up to the iPhone 5 or the 3rd generation iPod Touch to the 5th generation iPod Touch -- as long as the device has iOS 5.1 or later. Download it now from iTunes.
