Delicious 2 Finally Debuts

Friday August 1, 2008

It's been talked about for some time, but until now, Delicious 2 was just a bit of vaporware. But there is no worry that it will turn into Duke Nukem Forever -- Delicious 2 has now officially been released.

The new interface is a lot more slick than the old (and rather clunky) design, but don't think that Delicious is turning its social bookmarking site into a bunch of bells and whistles. It is still a simple design that is easy to navigate, and it hasn't added so many features that you lose site of exactly what you are supposed to do on the site. As David at Ars Technica noted, there's no mini-games cluttering up the sidebar and no complicated profile that you must keep tweaking.

Perhaps the most important feature added was boost to the speed. Delicious was known to become a little bogged down from time to time, but the developers are telling us that the new Delicious will take care of these performance issues. The site definitely seems a little quicker to respond to me, but the real test is how well it performs over time. Perhaps we'll check back in on that one in a month and then give the results on Twitter -- which will no doubt be conveniently down at the time.

One change that might go by unnoticed to some -- but will no doubt have long-time Delicious users howling at the moon -- is that the old domain name (del.icio.us) has been changed to the much simpler delicious.com. I guess we have to score one for the establishment on that one.
