Get Ready For ME

Monday July 28, 2008

UanMe (http://uan.me) is at the front of the line for new sites boasting the recently released .me domain -- and it shows. While UanMe is hoping to capitalize on being one of the first sites out the door utilizing the new domain, the website looks like it was programmed over a long weekend and a six pack of Mountain Dew. Pretty much your standard social bookmarking site, there's definitely loose wires sticking out of a few sockets and the plumbing needs a bit of work.

And expect more of the same as other websites are rushed out the door in order to take advantage of the new domain name.

While those in the business of selling domain names are plugging the .me domain as being all about you, the domain is actually a country code for Montenegro, a country in Southeastern Europe. But that won't stop the land rush and UanMe won't be the last to take advantage of the new domain. (And for those hoping to register Awso.me, you are out of luck -- it was one of the first domain names out the door.)

Hmmm, sounds like you didn’t get the dot me name you wanted so you don’t want others to do well with them either.

Seriously sounded more like sour grapes than a review.

I’m sure, well I know, that digg had more than a few loose wires when it was first launched and propeller.com has more loose wires than any of them right now, so why not give the site a little time and see how well it does.

Look forward to your followup review of that website after you drink some decaf.

Actually, Aweso.me is still currently available. However it’s being auctioned in a closed auction on the .me website.

Auctions .ME Domains

(Just use the search feature for “Aweso.me” and you’ll see that it is actually there and available)

It’s a closed auction system, by invitation only. But if you can garner an invite from your registrar, you can be in on the fun. Starting bid on it as of this post is $75.

Good to know. It was coming up as already taken when I typed it into the request form, but I hadn’t taken a closed auction into consideration.
