Reddit and 4chan are where most Internet memes are born, and thanks to those first few memes that graced our computer screens years ago, we now have a bunch of meme generator tools we can use to make our own.
If you’ve got a thing for Internet memes, you can get really creative and if you’re really lucky, it might go viral. Here are 10 of the most popular tools people use today to create and share their memes.
MemeGenerator.net is one of the most popular tool used for making memes. You can browse through memes made by others and use the menu above to look through different characters, images, what’s popular and the newest memes. Click “Generate an Image” on the left to start building your own meme.
If you’re familiar with the famous Rage Comic series featuring hilariously exaggerated characters like the Forever Alone Guy and the Me Gusta Guy, then this might be the tool you want to use if you prefer to work with Rage Guys. This tool is brought to you buy Memebase.com and the Cheezburger network.
Quickmeme is a lot like MemeGenerator.net. Featured memes are displayed on the homepage and you can browse through the ones that are the most popular, random memes and favorite memes. Click “make a meme!” to browse through the memes and choose an image to start creating your caption.
Again, Zipmeme is nearly identical to Quickmeme and MemeGenerator.net. You can actually upload an image file from your computer or choose from the many meme images that are currently popular. Trending memes are listed at the top, and you can also sort through memes that are featured, random or most popular.
Standing for “do it yourself” and “laugh out loud,” DIYLOL lets you search for memes and give them a star rating. Submit your own meme by uploading an image and filling in the text caption. DIYLOL also has an iPhone app, which is not free, but costs only $0.99. Worth it if you love to look at memes on the go.
Troll.me is yet another meme generator that looks eerily similar to that of Zipmeme and Quickmeme and probably a few others too. You can create an account and login, create your memes, browse through popular memes and check out the meme list. Everything you need is there to get you going on your memes.
7. Meme Center
Meme Center has a special kind of meme generator tool, because you can also make GIFs (moving images) with it too. Before you do anything you have to sign up for a free account, which shouldn’t take too long. Then you can upload your own images or use the meme builder tool or GIF maker tool to start creating.
8. Meme Creator
This site started off at MemeCreator.org and recently moved to be MemeCreator.com, both of which are usable at this point. There are three simple options located on the top menu: Home, Create and Browse. The Create option brings you to a bunch of image templates you can use for your own memes.
Now here’s something different for you. This is not a website like all the others. iMeme is actually an app for Mac OS X and Windows. Created by Redditor Michael Fogleman, the app comes with over 50 templates, share options and a whole bunch of customizable options for sizing, fonts, text, alignment and more.
10. IB Memes
As a last option, there’s a Tumblr blog called IB Memes that actually functions as a meme generator. Select “Create a Meme!” from the top menu and select the meme you want to use. This is a very simple meme generator tool so you only have the options to customize the top and bottom text for your meme. If you want more customization options, your best bet would probably be to stick with any of the meme generator tools listed above.
