This article explains how to use Dubsmash to dub audio over your personal videos on iOS and Android devices.

Browse Through Trending, Discover, or My Sounds to Choose a Sound

Once you've downloaded the Dubsmash app to your device, you're ready to start filming your own videos. Unlike many apps, Dubsmash doesn't immediately require creating a new account with a username and password — you will still be prompted to do so at some point during the video-making process.

The main tab shows three categories at the top:

  • Trending: In this category, you'll find collections of sounds by theme. Tap on Love, Reality TV, Swag, Old School or any other category to see which sounds are contained in them.
  • Discover: These are sounds that have been uploaded by other users, which you can use freely.
  • My Sounds: Here, you can upload your own sounds or see all the sounds from other users that you favorited when you tapped the star button on any that you liked.

To listen to a sound, press the play button to its left. If you want to start dubbing a video with a chosen sound, tap the title of the sound itself.

Record Your Video

Once you've found the sound clip you want to use and have tapped its title, the app will bring you to a video-recording tab and will ask for your permission to use your camera.

Tap Start to begin recording, and you'll hear the sound clip start playing with an audio player at the top of the screen. Once it's finished, you'll see a preview of your video.

You can click the X in the top left corner, if you want to redo the video, or tap Next in the top-right corner to continue. You can also tap the little smiley face icon in the bottom left corner of the screen to add fun emoji to your video.

When you're happy with your video, tap Next.

Share Your Video

After your video has been processed, you can choose to save it to your camera roll or share it directly to Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp.

If you plan to share it to social networks like Instagram, you have to save to your camera roll first, and then upload it through the app.

View Your Dubs in One Place

Navigating back to the main tab with all the sound clips available, you should notice a menu button in the top-left corner of your screen.

A sliding menu will appear with three options: My Dubs, Add Sound, and Settings. All the videos that you create will appear under My Dubs, and you can add a sound by recording it, taking it from iTunes, or adding it from your gallery under Add Sound.

Your settings only give you a few customizable options — such as your username, phone number, and preferred language.
