Google Confirms That Its Street View Team Did Not Murder an Innocent Donkey

By January 17, 2013

Follow me on:

Somewhere in Botswana, there's a simple donkey roaming the dirt roads -- totally unaware of how Internet famous he (or she) has become over the past couple of days.

Somebody using Google Street View came across a donkey laying down in the middle of the road of Botswana's Kweneng region. And because the entire Internet is really good at exaggerating almost any slightly interesting situation, the "Google killed a donkey" rumor went viral.

Google had to take the time to release a statement on its official blog to address the rumor, confirming that the Street View car never hit the donkey and that "the donkey is alive and well." The animal had already been laying in the dirt to start, and then decided to stand up when it noticed the Street View car approaching.

So, there you go. Another dramatic Internet rumor totally busted. You can read Google's official "we didn't kill the donkey" blog post here or check out exactly what it looks like on Google Street View.
