Pope Benedict XVI is now officially on Twitter. He hasn't tweeted anything yet, but the announcement generated enough buzz early Monday morning that attracted tens of thousands of users to start following the new account -- @Pontifex.
The Pope currently follows seven other accounts, all of which will tweet the same Q&A content as @Pontifex, but translated into German, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Italian, French and Arabic. Users will be able to ask questions by tagging their tweets with #askpontifex, and followers can expect to see the first papal tweets starting on December 12 (the feast of the Madonna of Guadalupe).
