Can You Be Arrested For Faking a Facebook Profile?

Thursday February 7, 2008

Apparently so, at least in Morocco. According to the CNN article, Fouad Mourtada, a 26 year old Moroccan man, was arrested in Casablanca for "villainous practices." These villainous practices? Posing as Prince Moulay Rachid on Facebook.

Hey, everyone wants to meet a Prince, right? Can you imagine how long his friends list might have grown if he had pulled it off?

But, as Michael at TechCrunch said, "...if you are going to pretend to be royalty to meet girls on Facebook, you should do it from somewhere other than where the royalty being impersonated has legal jurisdiction."

It does bring up a good question, though. If you could be anyone on Facebook, who would you be?

Me? I'd have to go with Gambit from the X-Men. Why? No reason other than using it as a soap box for ranting on why I haven't been in any of the X-men films yet.
