Digg to Support OpenID

Tuesday January 29, 2008

Earlier this morning, Digg announced they are joining the DataPortability Project, a project whose goal is to allow users -- that's us -- to be in control of their data by letting us share it among different sites. This means importing your Digg friends to be your friends on MySpace, etc.

They also announced that Digg would be supporting OpenID. This might be a better sign than Digg joining the DataPortability Project considering that Facebook, Twitter, and Google among others already support the DataPortability Project.

OpenID has been slow to become universally accepted as a login mechanism, and the more big-name sites that jump on board the better.

For a great read on the news including an interesting user poll on DataPortability, check out Mashable's article on Digg's move.
